Senior Patrol Leader

The junior leader with the most responsibility in a troop is the Senior Patrol Leader. He is elected by all of the members of the troop. Each troop sets its' own requirements and schedule of elections, though senior patrol leaders are usually chosen at six- to 12-month intervals and can be reelected.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and chairs Patrol Leader Councils
  • Provides strong, energetic, encouraging leadership to the Troop
  • Leads Troop meeting
  • Responsible for opening and closing of Troop events
  • Responsible for communication interface between Scoutmaster and Patrol Leaders
    Moderates boy-boy conflicts as required
  • Sets good example by working on own advancement, taking Junior Leadership Training and living by the Scout Oath and Law

Evidence of Accomplishment:

  • Show plans for at least 4 Troop meetings including an agenda for the meetings
  • Show the agenda for the last 2 PLC meetings with a summary of the important decisions reached
  • Maintains a regular PLC meeting schedule
  • Show attendance at PLC meetings

  • Scoutmaster


Assistant Senior Patrol Leader

The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader is the second highest-ranking youth leader in the troop. He is appointed by the senior patrol leader with the approval of the Scoutmaster. The assistant senior patrol leader acts as the senior patrol leader in the absence of the senior patrol leader or when called upon. He also provides leadership to other youth leaders in the troop. He is appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader under the guidance of the Scoutmaster.

Responsibilities

Quartermaster

The Quartermaster keeps track of troop or team equipment and sees that it is in good working order. He keeps records on patrol/troop or squad/team equipment, makes sure equipment is in good working condition, and issues equipment and makes sure it is returned in good condition.

Scribe

The Scribe is the record-keeping and financial officer of the troop.

Historian

The Historian preserves troop/team photographs, news stories, trophies, flags, scrapbooks, awards, and other memorabilia.

Librarian

The Librarian oversees the care and use of troop/team books, pamphlets, magazines, audiovisuals, and merit badge counselor lists.

Chaplain Aide

The Chaplain Aide works with the unit chaplain to meet the religious needs of Scouts. He also works to promote the religious emblems program.

Order of the Arrow Rep

The Order of the Arrow Troop Representative and the Order of the Arrow Team Representative are a youth liaison between the local Order of the Arrow (OA) lodge or chapter.

Den Chief

Serving as Den Chief can apply towards Positions of Responsibility requirements for Star, Life, and Eagle.
